Samantha Gardner is someone who has the great initiative to change the world and create a greatly inspiring approach to understanding and enabling people who are ageing.
She has parents who are way older than most of the people she is studying with or her colleagues and peers. She closely analysed the process of ageing and the consequences it comes with.
She is an immigrant from Dubai to Canada and vividly seen her parents creating a safe and loving environment.
She is living her life vividly confronting how her parents age when she is just in her 20s. She felt great about how amazingly embraced the process of ageing.
From taking great inspiration from her parents co-founded an organization that is based on the idea of a non-profit (NGO) the name is also marvellously called Sunshine Connected. The concept of the NGO is to connect two entirely different age groups to learn from each other. University students with older people are paired to understand each other and their struggles. The organization was created due to the coronavirus global pandemic which created a space of distance and isolation among people and students were not able to volunteer and expand their social skills. This NGO solves both issues.
They also completed an online pilot project where the idea was to interchange letters (pen-pal) with someone having the same curiosities, and fondness. This activity helped both parties to learn new ideas and skills to overcome obstacles.
This year the NGO is planning to go beyond online and bring the notion of offline and online interaction which has the intact objective of teaching and providing health literacy to those aging adults.
Gardner discussed how this NGO can pave the path for great innovative ideas to explore ways to eradicate isolation.
She completed her degree in commerce where her main aim was to explore business management.
While discussing her funds she pointed out that the growth of the population and support from them can bring a positive impact on our society.
The ageing population of the world will increase tremendously from twelve percent to twenty-two percent by 2050 according to the world health organization. She got the idea of developing such an organization while doing leadership certification. They received funds from Dunin Deshpande Queen’s innovation, the centre is designed for supporting start-ups. Even twenty-five thousand dollars received from Ontario Centre which works for adults (aging ) which also helped them to connect to more people.
She claimed an award for the contribution she made to the society award of Women’s entrepreneurial leader from Enactus Canada.
She is a firm believer that her efforts toward helping senior people in society are going to bring a positive environment to our society. She is also part of the Toronto 36 it’s a program that selects the brightest thirty-six entrepreneurs from all over the country.
