Garba traditional dance

Garba is a traditional dance Nowadays, it has all the momentum, it was earlier performed during the festival of Navratri although a lot of festivals now have some aspect of Garba in them,  such as Rama Navami, Krishna Janmashtami Ganesh Utsav.

This dance originated in one region of India but now it is becoming prevalent all over India outside India too.

The way of dance

In this particular dance form, the women form a circular path, which symbolizes the mother goddess. all the dance forms are indigenous to the Gujarat region of India but it is now widespread all over the states of India and even abroad.

Garba vs dandiya

The common belief is that people suppose Garba and Dandiya are similar forms of dance. However, Dandiya originated from Gujarat but it is perfectly distinct from Garba. in Dandiya you need a pair of sticks to perform dandiya and in Garba, you do not require a pair of sticks.

Circle of life

The dance form Garba is performed in a circular movement which symbolizes our Circle of Life, Where our journey starts with our birth and then we go to death and rebirth. Nonetheless, the only thing that remains a constant is Goddess Durga, she is unchanging invincible and always there.

Dressing style

Garba mandates you to dress in a certain manner. Women and men who perform Garba wear chaniya choli which is a very colorful costume that represents the bright aspect of our life. They perform this dance on a Dhol or drum. Men who perform Garba wear dhoti and kurta colorful and full of energy and vibrant.

Other hand women wear chaniya choli which is a three-piece dress, where a blouse, a long skirt and a chunni are. It is full of hues and techniques devised by the rich heritage demonstrating the magnificence of the culture of Gujarat. Even the work or embroidery on the chaniya choli is made of colorful thread and mirrors which showcase the beauty of the tradition.

No discrimination and contemporary

Dance Garba is accomplished by all people without discriminating over anything, no matter how old or young or which gender you belong to you can dance, and you can appreciate the dance.

Contemporary Garba is becoming more inclusive by adapting the traditional Garba dance form along with the dandiya and some modern elements such as dancing to modern songs and incorporating this in a lot of festivals.
